What services does the County of Bergen offer seniors?

What health services are available to seniors through the Borough?

Senior citizens can take advantage of a free Health Consultation Program administered by Bergen County's Public Health Nurse every month. The Nurse visits Borough Hall's Council Chambers on the first Thursday and Sr. Center on the third Tuesday of the month. Walk-ins are seen on a first-come, first-serve basis from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Call the Health Department at (201) 261-8106 for details.

The Health Department also offers influenza vaccine injections to Oradell residents (age 65 and older), who have Medicare Insurance Part B. Check the Borough's online calendar for upcoming dates or call the Health Department at (201) 261-8106 for details. Note: HMO members are required to visit their own primary care physician.


Am I eligible for tax relief?

If you are 65 or older, you may be eligible to participate in the Homestead Benefit Program and/or the Property Tax Reimbursement (Senior Freeze) Program offered by the Division of Taxation for the state of New Jersey. How can I arrange free transportation?

Transportation is available to Oradell senior citizens and disabled individuals free of charge on Tuesdays and Thursdays for doctor visits, shopping, etc. The van is equipped with a wheelchair. For appointments, please call (201) 261-8200 ext. 271. Kindly call 48 hours in advance and leave a message with your name and phone number in order to receive a call back. In the event that the van is unavailable, contact Bergen County Special Transportation at (201) 646-3227.


What events and activities are available for senior citizens?

Open to Oradell Seniors only free of charge at the Senior Center:

  • Thursday 10:30-11:30am Fitness

Is there someone I can call to help with household repairs?

Chore Service, which is part of the Volunteer Center of Bergen County, Inc., helps disabled homeowners and senior citizens (age 60 and over) remain safe and secure in their homes. The group performs minor household repairs, such as minor plumbing and electrical repairs, installations of smoke alarms, installation of internal railings or bath bars, etc. Services are provided by volunteer handypersons. There is no charge for the services, but clients are expected to pay for any parts necessary to complete the repair(s). Visit Bergen Volunteers or call (201) 489-7790 for more information.
