Environmental Committee

Overview

Oradell's volunteer-led Environmental and Beautification Committee, which oversees a wide range of initiatives related to environmental protection, sustainability, and beautification, is the driving force behind the community's environmental efforts. The Committee members also form Oradell's Green Team.

The Committee plays a vital role in Borough life, from organizing Hackensack River and townwide clean-ups to running volunteer recycling and re-use programs like the NexTrex® plastic recycling initiative and the Swap-Shop, a give-an-item, take-an-item freecycling program at the DPW Recycling Center. The Committee leads town beautification projects and works with schools, scout troops, and other community organizations on environmental education and sustainability projects.

In 2023, Oradell's dedication to pursuing "green" programs and initiatives was rewarded with the honor of a Silver certification from Sustainable Jersey. This prestigious designation for municipal governments in New Jersey demonstrates Oradell's commitment to protecting the environment, while also opening the doors to invaluable training, tools, resources, and grants.  Committee members keep at the forefront of environmental topics and assist Borough officials by assessing potential grant opportunities to implement new programs.

The group meets on the first Wednesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. in Borough Hall's Caucus Room. Room is subject to change. Committee Members are appointed annually.

Prospective projects are many, and new volunteers are always welcome. Residents who have an interest in environmental issues are encouraged to drop in. No formal experience or training is required.
