Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts

Chartered in 1911, Oradell Troop One was one of the nation's first Boy Scout troops. The first Oradell Cub Scout Pack was established in 1943. Notable Oradell Boy Scout alumni include Walter "Wally" Schirra, one of the original Mercury 7 astronauts.

Today's Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America follow in the footsteps of their predecessors, fulfilling the programs' objectives of developing character, citizenship, and personal fitness, while actively participating in the Oradell community.

Cub Scouts
Oradell Cub Scout Pack 136 meets once a month from September to May. Dens meet one to two times per month to do activities and fulfill program requirements.

Participation in Cub Scouts is open to boys in first grade through fifth grade. For more information about participating, please email: [email protected]

Boy Scouts
Boy Scout troop members work their way up the ranks, from Tenderfoot Scout through Eagle Scout. Oradell's Troop 36 proudly boasts just over 200 Eagle Scouts. Scouts regularly march in Oradell's Memorial Day and Fourth of July parades, sell hotdogs at the Independence festivities at Memorial Field, and participate in other important civic events. Troop 36 also goes on camping trips each month and visits historic sites and trails.

Girl Scouts

Daisy Scouts; Brownies; Junior, Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador Girl Scouts

Oradell's Girl Scout tradition dates back to 1925, when Bluebird Troop No. 1, led by founders Eleanor Cottrell and Louise Touzeau, first met in the Reformed Church parish house.

Today's Girl Scouts continue a long-standing tradition of helping to make Oradell a better place through diverse community improvement projects, seasonal storefront window decorating, cookie sales, and educational and social events.

The program is open at all levels, with no prerequisites. Girls become eligible to participate in the program in kindergarten, but are welcome to join at any age level, from Daisy Scouts to Ambassadors.

Program levels are as follows:

  • Daisy Scouts for kindergarteners and first graders;
  • Brownies for second and third graders;
  • Girl Scout Juniors for fourth and fifth graders;
  • Girl Scout Cadettes for sixth, seventh, and eighth graders;
  • Girl Scout Seniors for ninth and tenth graders; and
  • Girl Scout Ambassadors, for eleventh and twelfth graders.
