Snow removal is a major function of Oradell's Department of Public Works. At the beginning of a storm, four salt spreaders are dispatched to salt main arteries and hills. When there is a two-inch accumulation, ten plows and four salt spreaders are used to clear and de-ice streets. Under a contract with Bergen County, the DPW plows county roads in the Borough and is reimbursed for the cost of labor and materials.
Residents can assist Borough snow removal operations and support public safety by observing the following guidelines:
- Avoid parking on Borough streets during a snow storm.
- Remove basketball hoops from the right-of-way along roadways.
- Do not shovel or plow snow into the streets, as this can contribute to icy and dangerous road conditions. ( Borough Ordinance #224)
- Shovel out and clear snow and ice three feet around any fire hydrants adjacent to your property so firefighters have sufficient room to connect a hose in the event of a fire.
Please note: Residents are responsible for removing snow from their sidewalks within 12 hours of daylight after it has fallen, pursuant to Borough Ordinance #224.
